Seattle Conference Jobs Make Work Fun

Working in the conference industry in Seattle, Washington can be a lot of hard work, but it’s also a job that pays off in fun.  Almost like working for the Love Boat.  Sort of. The largest city in the Pacific Northwest with 3.4 million people, Seattle sits on a breathtakingly beautiful piece of land between Puget Sound, the Pacific Ocean and Lake Washington.  For young and old who value mountains over sun, Seattle has become an alternative tourist – and conference -- destination for those that eschew Florida and California. In fact, since the mid-1990s, Seattle has become one of the prime departure cities for the major cruise lines – especially those heading to Alaska. So there are a lot of things going on in Seattle and there is plenty of work for those who want to be part of the conference business.  This is a booming industry that offers a wide variety of jobs for a range of skill levels.

Seniors who choose Seattle over the more southern retirement cities will find that there is plenty of work to be had.  Younger “seniors” may still be looking for a career path.  Those with a background in hospitality, business or public relations, might enjoy the challenge of a job as a conference manger or event planner.

Working with the public, planning events from the food to the speakers to the registration materials, this job is always interesting.  Something different every day.  It takes an organized person with an outgoing personality to handle this job, but those that are successful can bask in the glow of accomplishment that comes with a job – and event – well done. For those who are just looking for something to fill a little time, who want something to do, but no worries to take home at the end of a day, there are jobs as event staff that just might fit the bill.  Servers, ticket-sellers, and ushers are some of the jobs out there for those looking for part-time work in this field.   The Washington State Convention Center and Bell Harbor International Conference Center are two of the premier conference sites in Seattle.  In addition to these mega-centers, there are a myriad of smaller venues in neighboring cities, within deluxe hotels, at the University of Washington (U-Dub) and even inside some of the major sports facilities in the city.  From national and international business meetings to weddings, and pep rallies to reunions there is no end to the number of events taking place in this bustling city every day. And for those with the time and the personality and the desire to be part of it, there is much to be done.  So forget retirement – get to work!
